WRITING INSPIRATION COLLAGE
Your child came home today with a blank piece of yellow paper for an optional and fun at-home project. This year, your child will write lots and lots of stories as part of our Writer's Workshop. We encourage children to use real things from their lives- things they do, places they go, people and pets they love to pull their stories from. I've asked children (with the help of their parents) to put together an inspiration collage to live in their writing folders that will inspire them when they're stuck trying to think of what to write about. Here are the project guidelines:
- Use any piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper (I provided yellow pieces to make it easy), and decorate one side or both sides- they will go in a sheet protector.
- Be sure to include the child's name and clippings, clip-art, photos, drawings, words, etc. that display the child's favorite people, pets, places, and things to do.
- Bring it back to school by Monday Sept. 19th.
- Have fun and email Mrs. Barrows with any questions! :)
You can use the photos above as an example of what a finished collage might look like.
PICTURE DAY
Picture Day is this Thursday the 15th. You can place orders online or send in the envelope that went home last week. All children will be part of the class picture, so please wear your favorite outfit and come ready to say, "CHEESE!" :)
THE GRADE
Children will take a formal reading assessment this week called The Grade. The information from the test helps us determine their reading level. We will talk about it more on Curriculum Night, but I wanted parents to know in case your child comes home and mentions it.
Here's to a happy first full week of school! :)
