Happy Friday! We took advantage of this beautiful fall weather to get outside this afternoon and investigate leaves. We learned about how scientists classify data, by classifying leaves.
Curriculum Night
We decided to reschedule Curriculum Night to coincide with Literacy Night here at McGovern School. You're invited to room 3 on Tuesday night October 25th from 5:30-6:00 for my Curriculum Night/Open House presentation. Family Literacy Night for first grade will begin at 6:30, so you'll have time to browse the Book Fair in between. Since children are invited to Family Literacy Night but typically do not attend the teacher's Curriculum Night presentations, there will be a supervised activity provided for your first grader while you attend the presentation. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for December 8th and 13th. Please see my email from Sign Up Genius to sign up for a convenient conference. If you have any trouble with the site, please just email me.
Homework
I had hoped to launch math homework and our blue bag reading program this week after we had a chance to discuss what to expect on Curriculum Night. Since things didn't go as planned I have not yet sent home any work. I will begin sending home blue bags and math Home Links next week. I will include Family Letters, but please expect to receive much more information on Curriculum Night.
Scholastic
I also planned to introduce Scholastic as an amazing resource for helping our classroom library by building your at-home library. I will send home more information about that too, but in the meantime if you'd like to order books for your child in October, you can access our class account here: https://orders.scholastic.com/HQG94
