Room 3 will have a lot of fun in February! Below is a description of all the neat events we'll partake in in the coming weeks.
Math Morning- We want to invite families to join our students and teachers in a morning of math activities. Parents will be able to stay with their child and travel from the child’s “homeroom” to three other classrooms. Grade one families are invited on Tuesday, February 7 from 9:15- 10:30. Please join us if you can!
100 Day Dress Up- Our 100th day of school, barring any snow days, will be on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. To celebrate, we would love children to dress up like they are 100 years old. Participation is completely optional, but I thought it would be a fun and memorable experience for the children. I created a Pinterest board you can access here for inspiration on costume ideas.
Valentine's Day- Our class will celebrate Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14th. During school, we will decorate a bag to hold your child's valentines (if you'd like to donate stickers for this, please send them in before the 14th). Your child can choose to bring in a valentine for EVERY student in the class, or choose not to distribute valentines. A list of student names will go home next week. Having your child write the names of his/her classmates is great handwriting practice!
In accordance with the district health and wellness policy we ask that you DO NOT attach or include any food or candy items with your child's valentines. We have children with food allergies in our classroom and want to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your support!
Box Tops- MEPTO is collecting Box Tops again this spring. This exciting program is an easy way to earn money for the McGovern School - the fall collection raised about $2000 for the school!
Starting Monday (1/31), please send your child with the boxtops/labels in a bag or envelope. See the links below for more details about the programs and the participating products.
There is a prize for the class who submits the most - prize TBA, but probably something like a special lunch/movie with the principal.
February 17 is the collection deadline.

Tyson Label Collection Program - products
Writer's Workshop- Children have been working so hard learning craft moves from authors to make their writing really special. We will wrap this unit up next week, but as we come to a close, children will still be asked to write another story or two to showcase all they've learned. Many students are starting to run out of ideas so I'm looking for your help! Children will bring home a graphic organizer that says how strong emotions=great small moment stories. This week, help your child brainstorm at least three ideas of a time they were excited, surprised, scared, worried, etc. Once they've sketched or wrote a few words to spark an idea in at least three boxes, you can send the paper back to school (by Friday). Thanks for your help!
Finally, a reminder that February vacation runs from February 20th-24th this year. School will be closed.
