This week we wrapped up our second units in both Readers' and Writers' Workshop. Monday we will launch new units where children will be encouraged to read and write non-fiction text. I'm so excited for this next venture in our learning together. By nature, first graders are so curious about the world around us. These units will give children the opportunity to learn, explore, and become experts in science, social studies, and other real-life topics that totally spark their interest! How fun!
You can support this new learning at home in a number of ways:
- Visit the Medway library and encourage your child to look for non-fiction texts that interest them.
- Tune in to programs on PBS like Wild Kratts, and ask your child to notice what an expert scientist sounds like and have them mimic that voice when they read their non-fiction books.
- Help your child make a list of real-life topics that interest them.
I hope your child comes home eager to share all the neat facts they learn from their books!
UPCOMING DATES
Monday, November 16th- early release day for parent-teacher conferences
Wednesday, November 25th- Rm. 3 performance at 10:15, students dismissed at noon
Thursday & Friday November 26-27th- Thanksgiving break, no school
