We had a great first day back in room 3! As we transition back to our regular routine this week, we are taking a week off from spelling words. This week's homework expectation is 15 minutes of reading, a 10 minute math worksheet, and one minute with the rapid word naming grid.
Children will bring home the Family Letter for their new math unit today. Unit 5 introduces place value. Check out the Do Anytime Activities section of the letter for great ideas on how you can support your child's new learning in math.
This week we will wrap up our reading and writing units on non-fiction. The students have worked so hard to become experts on their non-fiction topics. I am so proud of all of their hard work. I can tell they are also very excited to jump back into reading and writing fiction stories too!
Please note that as the weather gets colder, we still enjoy taking students outside to get some fresh air and run around during recess. The teachers are asking that students now bring a winter jacket, hat and gloves to protect themselves from the elements every day.
When there is snowfall, we also try to bring students out during recess as long as it is not too cold. Students will be allowed to play in the snow if they have all of the following items: snow pants, boots, gloves, a winter jacket and a hat. It is strongly suggested that you write your child’s last name on the tag of each item, as they all look alike to the students. We are asking that each day that there is snow on the ground students bring these items in a bag for easy storage and safekeeping. We have found that it helps to have one of those reusable cloth shopping bags, as they are sturdy, have long handles for little arms, have solid bottoms and are rectangular in shape, therefore stacking easily in our cramped closets. These items will go home each and every day.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. The students love going outside no matter the weather, but we want to make sure it is a safe experience!
