Students in room 3 had a lot of fun with our Ipads this week. First, we participated in the Hour of Code, which is an international event to promote teaching computer programming in schools. Students used an app called Daisy the Dinosaur and explored other web-based resources that exposed them to the very basics of writing code.
We also used a fun app called Chatterpix to demonstrate how to retell non-fiction books. Our current unit is all about getting super smart about non-fiction topics. The children were thrilled to share their knowledge, so I created a playlist on OUR CLASS YOUTUBE account for students to see and share their work! Here is just one example of their fabulous work!
In addition to our non-fiction work and focus on technology, we also did some interactive writing about Hanukkah. First graders learn about holidays. We watched an informative short film from Brain Pop Jr. and students worked together to write sentences that answered who, what, where, and how Hanukkah is celebrated. To those of you who celebrate, I hope you've had a very Happy Hanukkah!
